The Ratnapura District Development Seminar in the series of Development Seminars for Media Personnel, organized by the Government Information Department is being held today at the Auditorium of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.
This is an awareness programme for media personnel of the Ratnapura District on the development programmes of the government to enable them to take the message to the districts and villages in which they operate.
There are more than 80 participants in this Seminar.
A plaque was presented by the Department of Government Information on behalf of the Ratnapura District Media Personnel to the Chief Minister Maheepala Herath who was awarded Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize 2011 in Lucknow City, India.
The City Montessori School and Degree College (CMS), a renowned educational institution in India awards this annually and had selected Chief Minister Maheepala Herath to appreciate his services as the Provincial Education Minister. Maheepala is the first Sri Lankan to receive the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize. Director General of Government Information Prof.Ariyarathne Athugala and Dr.Praneeth Abeysundara will address the seminar. The Ratnapura District Secretary and Chief Provincial Secretary are also expected to address the seminar on the Sabaragamuwa Province developments.
Minister of Public Administration & Home Affairs W.D.J.Senevirathne, Director Information Wasanthapriya Ramanayake and Director General of Media Centre for National DevelopmentAriya Rubasinghe, were also present.
